DOC Cleaning Returns To The Broxbourne School For Careers Talk

Cleaning Career Talk

This week, Poppy Kirby, Administrative and Marketing Support, had the opportunity to return to The Broxbourne School to deliver career advice to school leavers.

Following the success of our recent Bright Futures session at The Broxbourne School, Poppy was invited back to speak with students about apprenticeships, workplace routes and career progression.

The students were interested to hear her story, with many being surprised by the different opportunites and career progression that cleaning industry has to offer.

Career Development at DOC Cleaning

Poppy began at DOC Cleaning as Office Administrator and recently moved into a new new role as Administrative and Marketing Support. Poppy’s role gives her the opportunity to support departments across the business.

Day-to-day responsibilities include internal communications, taking photos at events and supporting the design of marketing materials, which has allowed her to build a strong understanding of how different departments work together.

The company has played an important role in helping Poppy develop her interest in marketing. By giving her opportunities to contribute to creative projects, support communications and gain hands-on experience, she has been able to start building her skills in a working environment.

Poppy is soon to begin her Multi-Channel Marketing Apprenticeship. We’re proud to have supported her throughout the process, with our Director of People and Culture, Jane Malone, and Head of Marketing, Sophie O’Shea, playing an active role in helping her explore the opportunity to and prepare her application. The apprenticeship will allow Poppy to continue developing her marketing knowledge while gaining further experience within the business.

Supporting Future Career Choices

After the main session, Poppy and the former students also spoke with a Year 10 after-school club. This gave younger students the chance to start thinking ahead about A-level choices, future careers and the different pathways open to them.

This session was formatted as a Q&A discussion. Students were given a brief overview of each career path before asking questions about apprenticeships, work life and the different routes taken by Poppy and the other speakers.

Poppy shared:

It’s always a pleasure to be invited back to my old school to share insights into an industry that many students may not have previously considered.

It was especially rewarding to see how many students began exploring the possibilities within our industry after learning about the different career paths and progression opportunities it offers.

Looking Ahead

We’d like to thank The Broxbourne School’s Assistant Headteacher and Director of Sixth Form, Lou Reynard, for inviting Poppy to the session.

The event reflects the values behind Bright Futures, helping young people explore different career pathways, understand the opportunities available to them and see how early career decisions can develop into long-term progression. We look forward to sharing more about our Bright Futures plans soon.
