The placement formed part of our ongoing commitment to supporting young people through meaningful workplace experiences that help build confidence, develop practical skills and introduce students to professional environments.
Throughout the week, Elisha spent time with several departments across the business, including Marketing, People and Culture, Compliance and Contracts, Accounts and Administration. This gave valuable exposure to the variety of roles that contribute to the successful delivery of our services across the UK.
Building confidence through real workplace experience
For many students, work experience is their first introduction to a professional working environment. At DOC Cleaning, we believe these opportunities should be engaging, supportive and designed to provide genuine learning experiences.
During the placement, Elisha supported a range of day to day activities across the business, including administrative tasks, invoice processing, checking references and contracts, recording absence data, attending meetings, completing training modules and supporting article writing.
Alongside practical tasks, the experience also provided an opportunity to better understand how different departments work together and how businesses support both their people and their clients.
Reflecting on the experience, Elisha shared:
“The company gives you a clear explanation of how the business works and all the different roles within the company.”
Exposure to different career pathways
A key aim of the placement was to help provide a broader understanding of the different career opportunities available within the business.
Throughout the week, Elisha gained insight into areas including marketing, finance, compliance and people management, while also learning more about how teams support employee wellbeing, manage absences and maintain high standards across the organisation.
The People and Culture team was highlighted as one of the most enjoyable parts of the experience, helping provide a greater understanding of workplace support, employee relations and the important role people teams play within businesses.
Elisha showed a high level of professionalism and a strong willingness to learn during her time with the People and Culture Department.
During Elisha’s placement, she was able to explore the different career pathways available. Team members shared their experiences of entering the workplace through apprenticeships, university education, and hands-on industry experience allowing her to gain an understanding of the various routes into employment.
Developing practical skills
Work experience plays an important role in helping young people develop confidence and practical workplace skills that can support future education and career opportunities.
During the placement, Elisha developed skills in organisation, communication, attention to detail and data analysis, while also building confidence using workplace systems and adapting to a professional environment.
Like many students entering a workplace for the first time, the biggest challenge was adjusting to a new environment and meeting new people. However, by the end of the week, the experience had helped build confidence and provided a clearer understanding of potential future career interests.
Supporting the next generation
As a family business, supporting people has always been central to our culture. Through our Beyond Cleaning strategy and Bright Futures programme, we remain committed to creating opportunities that support development, learning and future careers.
Work experience placements provide young people with valuable insight into the workplace while also helping businesses contribute positively to their local communities and future workforce development.
Reflecting on the week, Elisha said:
“I would recommend work experience at DOC Cleaning because they teach you lots of things throughout the week and are there to help you whenever you need it.”
We are proud to support young people through meaningful workplace opportunities and look forward to continuing to provide placements that help students gain confidence, experience and a better understanding of the working world.
